Luminovo costs an electronic assembly from its BOM: parts at market prices, the board from its Gerber files, assembly and test from a labor and machine-time model. Use it for target costs, should costs and decisions on where to build.

“The tool we had worked well for materials, but everything around it was still very manual.”
The cost model is an Excel file with last quarter’s prices.
Labor and test cost stay a guess until a manufacturer quotes them.
By the time the number is solid, the design is frozen.

Placements, machine time and test strategy at your rates. Compare flying probe and bed of nails side by side.
Run the same product through other regions, alternates and volumes, and see which change moves the cost.
Put the quote and the should cost side by side, block by block, and discuss the assumptions behind the gap.
Leuze · Manufacturer · sensors for industrial automation · 1,500+ employees
Leuze could only cost a product precisely once its data reached SAP, after design. Now the team costs it in the concept phase, including production plans and test strategies. Re-evaluating a sensor built in Asia showed it could be built in Germany for less, after replacing single-source and hard-to-buy parts.
“We identified components that were either unavailable in Europe or restricted to a single source. After the analysis, we found alternatives that were more cost-effective and offered better availability. This allowed us to bring production back to Germany.”
